What is Royal Jelly?
Sage food juice, queen food juice or after the French name Gelée Royale is the feed juice with which the honeybees raise their queens.
While the larvae of the workers are switched by the bees to pollen and honey during feeding on the third day of their existence, the larva, from which a queen is to be born, continues to receive exclusively Royal Jelly from the nurse bees. The weight of the queen larvae, which feeds exclusively on royal jelly, increases by two thousand times in five days, while the larva of the worker has a much lower weight.
Consequently, the queen bee hatches on the 17th day, the worker bee on the 21st day and the drone, the male bee only hatches on the 27th day after the egg laying. The special feeding of the queen larva emanates leads to the queen of bees living 40times longer than a normal working-class bee.
Royal jelly is rich in valuable ingredients such as carbohydrates, protein, trace elements, amino acids and B vitamins (e.B. biotin, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and folic acid). The ingredients of Gelée Royale can be essential for the human metabolism in the area of cells and their renewal. Especially on all renewal processes, royal jelly is associated with a stimulating effect.
For more than 9,000 years, people have been taking advantage of bee products such as propolis and royal jelly. Even the Greek doctor Hippocrates used royal jelly for wound healing, and until the discovery of penicillin it was also prescribed in medicine as an antibacterial agent. Royal jelly improves general status and increases vitality. In cosmetics, royal jelly is used for cell regeneration of the skin.
