With propolis, bees have developed an extremely effective remedy.
Bees use propolis to protect the hive against draughts, moisture, microbes, germs, bacteria, fungi and viruses. The sensitive climate in the beehive with around 40,000 bees and high humidity is comparable to the human body. Due to its antibacterial, antiparasitic, antiviral and antifungal properties, propolis can also be used in many ways in humans
Bees collect resins from buds, leaves and tree bark to produce propolis. In the beehive, the resins are mixed with wax and pollen and softened with a special saliva secretion. To produce the propolis solution, raw propolis is dissolved in alcohol in a process lasting several weeks.
In order to achieve the propolis content of 30%, propolis extract is used for production, not raw propolis. The propolis solution we offer is of the highest quality and is produced professionally.
For external use, Apopharm's propolis tincture has been dermatologically tested by an independent institute. Many of our long-standing regular customers are delighted and no longer want to be without the propolis tincture in their medicine cabinet.
Application:
Particularly suitable for cosmetic use on the skin for blemishes and problems or in the mouth for dental and gum care. The application in the mouth and the targeted application on skin areas (e.g. warts, wounds, etc.) can be done well with a cotton swab. Please ensure that the propolis solution applied to the skin is always completely absorbed and dried.
- Propolis is not soluble in water. Nevertheless, it can be mixed with water, e.g. for gargling. This results in grey streaks that do not represent a loss of quality. Please note that the container used will turn brown in colour.
- Caution: Do not bring propolis into contact with clothing or other objects. It can only be removed from smooth surfaces with alcohol. Alcohol also helps with clothing, but only for yourself, as you cannot remove propolis from clothing.
- Therefore, please always make sure that the propolis solution applied to the skin is completely absorbed and dried.

PAHs in propolis
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs for short) are generally understood to occur in particulate matter and are considered potentially carcinogenic. Therefore, despite the lack of a legal maximum quantity regulation for bee products, they should also be kept as low as possible in propolis. The use of smokers, among other things, causes the so-called PAHs to enter the beehives and thus also increasingly into the propolis and beeswax. Our supplier started working with the manufacturers, extractors and the authorities involved some time ago (before 2020) to optimise the production of propolis tinctures. The aim was to minimise the PAHs in the Apopharm solutions. This includes stricter purchasing controls with regard to PAHs in raw materials and extracts as well as optimised processing and purification of the propolis solutions. Our extractors achieve this by using new filtration techniques, among other things, which make it possible to filter out insoluble fine dust, sometimes containing PAHs, from the solutions even better than before. However, this significant improvement in quality may result in the aroma and colour of the propolis tinctures differing slightly from the qualities you are used to. The colour may be slightly lighter and the aroma slightly softer. However, these changes have no effect whatsoever on the quantity of propolis contained in the tinctures we offer. - Result: The tinctures / solutions we offer from Apopharm are regarding PAHs, simply put, cleaner or purer with the same propolis content!
